An international sailor, the current Vice President of the Yachting Association of India, and a certified national judge in sailing. He has won four international Gold Medals and was National Champion for eleven years. He spent 36 glorious years in the Army.
He was a member of “Trishna”, the First Indian sailing expedition that circumnavigated the globe in 1984-85. He sailed from Port Said to Mumbai. In 1994, he led the Indian Army HIMEX sailing expedition at Tso Morari. In 1998, he organized a unique multi-dimensional adventure activity that was recognized by the Limca Book of Records.
General Pillai is an expert in GIS(Geographical Information System). In 2011, he helped establish GIS training for all branches of the Indian Army. He also helped establish DIGIT (Defence Institute of Geospatial Training and Information Technology.
Between 2014 and 2017, as the Technical Advisor to The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, General Pillai undertook many GIS projects.
