Lt Col Anil Kumar Sinha is a veteran whose persona is a rare combination of academic excellence, public relations expertise, sports zeal, and adventure. Commissioned in 1st Battalion, The Garwhal Rifles, a Mechanized Infantry Battalion on 14 Nov 1971, inducted directly into the War Zone in the Western Sector of Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, his glorious career of 38 years in the Army had many high points. Born in a village in Bihar, had his initial education in Patna, which in on the banks of river Ganga. He is an alumnus of Mt. Carmel, St.Xavier’s in Patna, Sainik School, Tilaiya, National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwaslathe Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Academic excellence and public relations expertise
Recipient of Bihar State Kunwar Singh Memorial Scholarship for 4 years, from January 1968- November 1971 while at NDA and IMA. He wasPRO Defence, Imphal, Manipur from 1999-2002, holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Computer Management, is a law graduate and a Member of The Bar Council of India and Bihar, since 2010. A practicing lawyer, he is actively involved in social activities.
Passion for sports
From early school days, he won awards in different disciplines from table Tennisto Hockey, Football, squash, Cricket, Handball, and Basketball. He was selected to Represent erstwhile Bihar State School Boys in hockey and athletics in The All India School Boys Competition in January 1968. He represented NDA in Hockey and Athletics, was awarded NDA Blue in Athletics and was on the Squash and Golf ladder. Under his care, in the Army, The Garwhal Rifles Regimental Centre(GRRC), Lansdowne, football team Won The class ‘A’ All India Football Tournament at Sambalpur, Orissa in 1979 and went on to play the Class ‘A’ All India Durand Football Championship in 1980-81.
Adventure
He attended The Adventure course at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute at Darjeeling, was a member of the IMA Mountaineering Team which went on to scale the Black Peak in June 1971 and was awarded a Mountaineering Blue in IMA. Participated in the Himalayan Car Rally in the year 1986 as the Team Leader and driver of the Mechanized Infantry Regimental team. In 1987 during The Garwhal Rifles Regiment Centenary Celebrations, advised, organized, trained, and guided the Garwhal Rifles Car Rally team which went on to win the chief of The Army Staff’s trophy in its category.
