Lt Gen S A Cruze, VSM and Bar ( Retired)

Lt Gen S A Cruze, Vishist Sewa Medal and Bar, having retired after reaching the Highest rank as a doctor in the Indian Army, is based in Pune and is the President and medical leader of Krumur clinic a spine ,joint and neurodynamics centre., a leading physical medicine and rehabilitation Centre that has treated over 2,500 patients and trained hundreds of athletes.

 

He completed his MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College in 1974, winning a Gold Medal as the best student and The Krishna Menon Trophy for being the best sportsman. He also won Pune University’s gold medal for having represented the University’s Hockey, Football, and Athletics team in the same year.

 

He represented india as a goalkeeper in hockey. Indian juniors 1970, Indian universities 1972 to 74 and Indian seniors team in Asiad 1974 and Montreal Olympics 1976.

He participated in mountaineering expeditions to Kachenjunga first ascent in the world and Nanda Devi.

 

Gen Cruze did his sports medicine from Germany and Switzerland from 1983 to 1985.

He set up Sports Medicine and Human Performance Lab for Army’s Sports Medical Centre. He set up similar lab for Sports Authority of India.

 

Gen Cruze was doctor of the Indian Hockey team for 5 Asian Games from 1986 to 1998. He helped India win the Gold medal after a gap of 30 years. He was also Indian team’s doctor for 2 Olympics in 1988 and 1996 and 7 world championships in hockey, boxing and rowing.

Gen Cruze headed the Scientific Support Team of Armed Forces and National Team.

He helped train over 275 international athletes and got India its first ever jr world cup in hockey at Hobart Australia.

 

He was a member of Planning Commission for developing Sports Sciences in the country.

 

For his exemplary service to the field of sports in the country and the Armed Services, he has been awarded the Shiv Chatrapati Award by Govt of Maharashtra and Krida Bhushan Award by Symbiosis International University in addition to nuccupmerous military awards.

As the Chief Mentor training, Gen Cruze is training the walkers right from now. He will ensure that they complete the 5,000 km marathon, the first ever Mundman parikrama of Ganga, without a hiccup.
