Maj Gen A K Chaturvedi

Major General (Retired) Ajay Kumar Chaturvedi, a highly decorated  officer from The Corps of Engineers of Indian Army, is a post graduate engineer in mechanical engineering (combustion & Propulsion) from IIT Chennai, MMS from the Osmania University Hyderabad (LDMC), and M. Phil from University of Madras (NDC). He is a qualified Level II (Advanced) coach in Rowing and a specialist in training methods and bio mechanics.

Popularly known as a soldier scholar he has been spending his time on intellectual pursuits. He was Director General College of engineering Roorkee from June 2015 to Jan 2018. He is Mentor of a Think Tank: Vision India Foundation, Honorary Director of UP Chapter of a Think Tank called Eco Development Foundation, and Coordinator of a Think Tank VIMARSH of Vivekananda Kendra Lucknow.

His published books are. “Water a Source of Future Conflicts”,  “Role of Pakistan in India’s Energy Security”, “Nuclear Energy in India’s Energy Security Matrix”. He has edited many books and chapters of books.  He has published many papers on diverse subjects

An outstanding sports man in his younger days, he was National champion in rowing both in open and veteran category, won Amateur Championship for East in a record breaking time in 1983.  He Donned the Indian Colour in the 1983 World Championship. He was the Chief coach of the Indian Team for 1989 Asian Championship and 1990 Asian Games. India won their first Gold under his tutelage.  He was Chairman National 24 Junior Rowing National championship Roorkee in 2004, Chairman National Canoeing and Kayaking Championship Roorkee in 2005, Advisor-  All India Police Water Sports held at Roorkee in 2005, and Co- Chairman Organizing  Committees of 35 and 36 Junior Rowing National Championships held at Lucknow in 2014 and Roorkee in 2015 respectively.  A trained scuba diver & a trained mountaineer. Has done a number of expeditions and adventure trails. He was part of IMA Expedition to Leo Pargial and Gang Chua in Himachal Pradesh. He also been part of number of other Adventure activities like Solo cycling trip from Pune to Lucknow in 1980, Solo Motor Cycle trip from Jaipur to Lucknow in 2015, Solo trip on a scooter from Hisar to Chandigarh via deserts in 1985, Desert Car Rally in 1985, Member  Multi Dimensional expedition of trekking, rowing and cycling in Ladakh in 1998, Organising a rafting cum cycling expedition from Rudra Prayag to Roorkee in 2004.
