Maj Gen Vinod Kumar Bhatt SM, VSM (Retired)

Maj Gen VK Bhatt, a veteran with 45 years of versatile experience, postgraduate in Environmental Science and Power systems (Electrical Engineering) from Poona University and Post graduate diploma (hons) in Environmental Management from Griffith University, Australia, is an Environmental Expert & adventure enthusiast.

His major achievements in the field of Environment are:

2012-2017. Adviser to Hon’ble CM Punjab Govt.: Issued & implemented the Water Quality Protocol for drinking water & its testing. Helped in resolving the National Green Tribunal (NGT) case regarding pollution of ground water in Ludhiana & Amritsar. Issued guidelines on Reverse Osmosis plants & stopped their usage in towns / villages in 2015-16.Made policy guidelines for improvement in Construction & Maintenance of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Water Treatment Plants (WTPs).
2005. Bureau of Indian Standards sponsored Lead Auditor Course on Environmental Impact Assessment ISO-14001:1996 IN 2005: Attended & qualified BIS sponsored AT Noida.

2003-2004. Management development program ISO: 9000 &ISO :14000 from NITIE, Mumbai: Implemented & tested these techniques in the Area of Responsibility of Chief Engineer Navy, Mumbai.

2002. Published & submitted a Dissertation “Methods To Restore Rivers” to Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Pune: Study on management of water pollution and restoration of Mula & Mutha river systems.

1998. Leader the Second Scientific & Ecological Expedition to Panchchuli peaks in Askot wildlife Sanctuary sponsored by the Ministry of E&F, Govt of India: This expedition provided an opportunity to nearly thirteen (13) scientists from various Govt & Non Govt organizations to carry out Environmental study for first time in this remote Darma Valley. The team submitted a 129-page Report with recommendations. A 19 minutes Movie was also made & broadcasted in National Channels.

1998. Exhibition in WWF (I): Displayed garbage brought back from the mountains for spreading awareness among the youth.

1993. Leader Scientific & Ecological Expedition to the Nanda – Devi Biosphere Reserve sponsored by Ministry of Environment & Forest Submitted a 93 page Report to the Ministry on status of mammals, Orinthological survey, Butterflies status, Status of forests in the buffer zone, diversity & status of plants and water Quality tests. Door Darshan Team made a 69-minute film on the expedition which was telecast on National TV channels a number of times.

In above expedition brought back 1300kgs of garbage from various camps of Nanda Devi main peak & burnt 1200 kgs at base camp. Also found & brought back remnants of nuclear device lost in the biosphere reserve in 1978. Organized a 30-day long exhibition in main Exhibition hall of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Lodhi Road Delhi to spread awareness among top national hierarchy, NGOs & students.

The concept of Multi-Dimensional Expeditions was introduced in Remote border areas which provided a platform and assistance to scientists to study flora, fauna, civic action, garbage cleaning& water quality along with promotion of number of Adventure Activities (viz… Mountaineering, skiing, paragliding, white water rafting and trekking) in these inaccessible areas.
